Lowland walking

Upplandsleden

The Uppland Trail runs through Uppland from Barkarby station to Gävle, which is about 35 miles. In addition, there are three sister trails; Härjarö - Siggefora via Enköping and Bålsta - Skokloster. There is also a shorter trail southwest of Gysinge. These three trails have probably been part of an earlier western stretch of the trail.

On this page you will find trail descriptions made during the day hikes my hiking buddy Peter and I did on the trail in 2011-2013. Most stages can be reached by public transportation, but this requires time for planning and execution. Taxis may sometimes be necessary and should be booked in advance. Often we have used two cars we have placed at the start and finish of each stage.

The trail is sometimes quite poorly marked in the terrain and on some stretches even the path is difficult to see. Through Sigtuna municipality there are no markings in the terrain at all. Signs with distance indications are often underestimated. A map is therefore often necessary to find the path. In 2013, some of the route of the trail will be changed and new stages will be implemented. Read more on the Upplandsstiftelsens website.

Maps

The terrain map covers the whole area. However, I have discovered that for example Calazo's maps for Northern Stockholm and Uppsala are very useful for other adventures as well. The same goes for Utekartan's Roslagen series. The map shop has a good selection and fast service.

Should we have coffee or go for a walk?

Being a leader can be lonely. A cup of coffee, a walk and someone to talk to can be a start.
