Lowland walking

Upplands-Broleden

The Upplandsbroleden is located near Stockholm and extends through a varied landscape. The trail is a total of 29 kilometers long and as usual marked with orange markings on posts or trees.

The nature is typical Mälar landscape characterized by the proximity to the city and the waters of Lake Mälaren. You will find everything from magical coniferous forests to light deciduous forests. Rolling grain fields to grazed beach meadows. Wildlife is abundant and during our walk we saw deer, foxes and traces of wild boar. More than 225 bird species have been observed in the Broängarnas nature reserve.

Transporters

The trail is easily accessible by public transport via the commuter train stations in Kungsängen and Bro. There are also buses (548 and 555) that cross the area.

There is also good car parking at the promenade in Kungsängen, at Broängarnas nature reserve and at Hällkana friluftsgård.

A walk on the trail

On our summer hike we chose to start at Broängarnas nature reserve and initially the hike goes through high grass and cattle pastures before entering the forest at Nytorp. Periodically, the well-established path goes high above Lake Mälaren, providing fantastic views of glittering bays. The magical forest passes several ancient remains in the form of Bronze Age graves.

The distance we walked was 16 kilometers but can be extended by just over 4.8 kilometers over Stäksön and/or 9 kilometers between Broängarnas nature reserve via Hällkana friluftsgård to Upplands Bro.

In summer, high shoes and mosquito repellent are recommended. A good map can be ordered or downloaded from Upplands Bro municipality's website.

Should we have coffee or go for a walk?

Being a leader can be lonely. A cup of coffee, a walk and someone to talk to can be a start.
