Roslagsleden stage 11: Sandviken - Grisslehamn 20 km
The absolute finest stage offers hiking in varied terrain along the Väddö coast with uninterrupted and incredible views of the Åland Sea.
After a short hike from Sandviken's campsite, you reach picturesque Gamla Grisslehamn, where mail rowing started in 1638 for mail between Stockholm and Åland. In Mälbyhamn there are traces of 400-year-old mining operations. The trail then continues on Klapperstensfält. At Edebyhamn and Havsängen the walk becomes hilly with forest, small fields and small villages. You pass the fishing village in Nothamn, which was the largest fishing site on the Väddö coast, and in Skottviken you walk on a lovely sandy beach. At Fjällboholmar there is also a nice beach with both sand and rocks.
Tullviksbäckens nature reserve has two streams closest to the sea and is one of the county's most important natural reproduction areas for sea trout.
The trail finally enters Grisslehamn along the shoreline at the studio of artist and writer Albert Engström, located on a cliff by the Åland Sea. You are now close to the final destination of the Roslagsleden and why not celebrate with a coffee at Kafé Kalaset or a bite to eat at one of the restaurants in Grisslehamn.
If you're in the mood, take the Eckerö Line to Åland to continue hiking along European Trail 6 to Kilpisjärvi in northern Finland or start again on one of the other trails around Stockholm.
