Roslagsleden

Roslagsleden stage 10 Gåsvik - Sandviken 9 km

Roslagsledens shortest stage with sea views

2013-08-01

Almost half of the stage follows the Väddö canal to Älmsta. The canal is originally a natural waterway, but after becoming overgrown in the 18th century, it had to be dug out once in the early 19th century and again in the early 20th century. Around 20,000 boats now pass through the canal every year.

In Älmsta there are shops, accommodation and restaurants and when you cross the bridge you are on Väddö, Roslagen's largest island. The trail passes Storängen Nature Reserve, which consists of an old agricultural landscape with pastures and a fine hay meadow. There are large 200-year-old oak trees here and the reserve is particularly beautiful to pass through in the fall.

The last part of the stage follows the old Sandviksvägen road eastwards to Sandviken campsite on the east coast of Väddö. Because the stage is so short, there's plenty of time to rest your legs in the sun on a cliff with great views of the Åland Sea.

Should we have coffee or go for a walk?

Being a leader can be lonely. A cup of coffee, a walk and someone to talk to can be a start.
