Released in 2010, the film is based on a true story from 1936 when the Nazis urged all German mountaineers to conquer the then unclimbed northern side of the Swiss massif Eiger.

Two reluctant climbers, Toni Kurz and Andi Hinterstoisser, head to the base camp below the massive mountain wall known as "The Murder Wall". While preparing, Toni and Andi unexpectedly encounter Toni's former love Luise who has come to the site as a journalist along with her boss, a staunch Nazi, to report on the first ascent. Toni and Andi start their climb, closely followed by the two Austrians Willy Angerer and Edi Rainer. Everything goes well at first for the two rope teams, but after a while the fight against nature begins.

Perhaps the story doesn't hold up throughout the movie, but the images of the Eiger are both majestic and breathtaking, and the climbing scenes with the period equipment are so nerve-wracking that they make up for the lack of action. I find it strange that the movie hasn't received more attention.

Should we have coffee or go for a walk?

Being a leader can be lonely. A cup of coffee, a walk and someone to talk to can be a start.
