The third generation of the small satellite-based emergency transmitter and tracker Spot has coverage over almost the entire globe. It offers fun features for the everyday adventurer and cheap life insurance for those venturing further into the wilderness.

The third generation of the small satellite-based emergency transmitter and tracker Spot has coverage over almost the entire globe. The small box is rugged, waterproof and weighs only 114 grams including four AAA batteries. You can use NiMH rechargeable batteries or Lithium, which last at least a year under normal use.

In addition to emergencies, it can also be used to communicate with family and friends while traveling. For example, you can send your GPS coordinates messages to show where you are and that you are okay even if you don't have cell phone coverage. If you wish, these messages can be automatically posted online on a map so that anyone can follow your trip in real time. You can choose how often you want to update the map. Links to Facebook and/or Twitter are also possible.

If you get into trouble, you can send emergency messages to selected friends and in a real emergency you can alert the emergency services in your country. An additional insurance policy for a small annual fee also covers rescue costs of up to USD 100,000.

The third generation has improved satellite communication, developed the keypad and added a device to attach the transmitter to the backpack. It also incorporates a sensor that detects when you stop, further reducing the already long battery life.

The spot tracker is easy to use and robust. It is perhaps most fun for the everyday adventurer but a cheap life insurance for those who move further into the wilderness.

Should we have coffee or go for a walk?

Being a leader can be lonely. A cup of coffee, a walk and someone to talk to can be a start.
