The ultimate adventure and training watch for those with high demands.

After wearing the watch for a couple of months, I've tested it in training, adventure and everyday life, it's time to summarize the impressions.

Ambit3 Peak is the third generation of the watch that followed the legendary X series. This time the case is made of polyamide with a steel bezel. The sapphire crystal should make the glass difficult to scratch. The strap is made of silicone. Suunto has previously had some quality problems with their bracelets, but since I have only used the watch for a few months yet, time will tell if they have succeeded better this time. Although the weight has increased slightly since previous versions, it still feels light and smooth on the wrist. The watch weighs 92 grams and is actually stylish enough to work even with a suit.

The features are impressive. Outdoor features include an altimeter, compass, GPS navigation and tracking. There are also several weather functions, including a storm warning.

The training functions are both numerous and useful. The watch measures your peak training effect and after the session it calculates how much recovery time is necessary. By connecting via USB to movescount.se, you get very detailed statistics on how your training is going and can analyze what you can do to achieve even better results. There are also a number of specialized apps to download for interval training, for example. The watch also has an activity tracker that gives you feedback on calorie consumption even in everyday life.

The GPS function is extremely fast. Like its predecessors, the watch saves data on satellite positions so that the connection for a trip is almost instantaneous. The built-in 3D compass is insensitive to wrist tilt.

Unlike its predecessor, the watch communicates via Bluetooth Smart with the heart rate belt and other sensors. Sensors using the old ANT+ communication protocol cannot be used. It is also possible to upload data to Movescount that way, but the app for Android phones is still poor. The app does not work on a tablet either. I have not tested with Iphone/Ipad but forum posts indicate that Suunto needs to work on the BT communication.

The battery life is even better than its predecessors. This is, as usual, partly due to generally developed battery technology but also because the watch adapts the satellite communication to the selected activity. The battery life for GPS updates every five seconds is given as 30 hours, but after a full day of use in dense forest, I found that 95% of the capacity remained.

Suunto's warranty and service commitment is the most ambitious approach I have ever seen in any industry. The process has been developed by someone who knows what even the most demanding customers want, and has managed to deliver a solution as well.

Should we have coffee or go for a walk?

Being a leader can be lonely. A cup of coffee, a walk and someone to talk to can be a start.
