Lighting in the forest
I'm amazed at how many animal eyes you see glinting during a late-night run in the forest outside Hässelby.
Don't stop running in the forest when the dark seasons arrive. Get a good headlamp instead. It's a great feeling to run in complete darkness. You're probably all alone, and the adrenaline rush you get when you hit the darkness is guaranteed to get you going. I'm surprised at how many animal eyes you see glinting during a late night run in the forest outside Hässelby.
Silva X-Trail is a good headlamp for running. Although the head-mounted part weighs only 80 grams, the powerful LED light shines a full 75 meters at full power. Two side lights provide good visibility even for the next running step, which is appreciated now that the leaves are starting to cover the sometimes slippery roots and rocks. The light sits firmly on your head and it's easy to find the right angle of light for your running style.
The battery pack is external and is best placed in your pocket or strapped around your hip with the included belt. The standard model has room for 4 AA batteries while the X-trail Plus has a slightly lighter (135 grams) rechargeable Li-ion battery. The battery lasts 30-45 hours depending on the model you choose but also depends on which of the five different power modes you use. A battery indicator tells you how much time you have left.
The package also includes a helmet and bike mount if you prefer cycling or climbing in the dark. The headlamp is waterproof according to IPX6.
