Tracks

A quiet adventure film set in the Australian desert.

2015-01-12

The movie Tracks, released in 2013, is something as unusual as a silent adventure film. It tells the remarkable but nonetheless true story of Robyn Davidson, a young woman who leaves city life to hike 300 miles across the Australian desert alone. She is accompanied by her dog and four unpredictable camels.

This is certainly not an action movie and, at times, you may even dislike the main character and her actions. Since the most interesting things happen in Robyn's mind, you might be surprised how the movie still grabs you.

Director John Curran has a real flair for the visual. He makes the rather uninspiring landscape crackle with heat, dust and dizzying solitude. At night, you see how cold only a desert can get. Mia Wasikowska who plays Robyn also does a great job as the wordless wanderer who embraces the mystery and grandeur of the unexplained.

A great adventure movie in all its quietness.

Should we have coffee or go for a walk?

Being a leader can be lonely. A cup of coffee, a walk and someone to talk to can be a start.
